Harriett Baptist Church

Our History

On November 29, 1953, the Baptist Sunday School Board and members from Second Baptist Church met at the local Union Hall with the hope of organizing a new Baptist church. Their hope would soon become a reality, as Harriett Baptist Church was established shortly thereafter.

Under the leadership of Reverend Alfred Ayscue and others, plans were set in motion to secure land for a church building. On Easter Sunday, April 1, 1956, Harriett Baptist Church transitioned from Union Hall to its new location on Carolina Avenue.

Over the next 60 years, God providentially worked in the life of Harriett Baptist Church, bringing faithful leaders and new members. By God’s grace, some were called out of Harriett Baptist to be ministers of the gospel elsewhere.

God brought a new opportunity before a growing Harriett Baptist Church in 2017. After much prayer to God and guidance from leaders in the congregation, the church voted on June 11, 2017 to purchase the West Hills Church building. Exactly 62 years from her first Sunday on Carolina Ave, Harriett Baptist moved to her new location on April 1, 2018.
